Apprenticeship Training

Hamer Bay Marine has been recognized as one of the training sponsors for Georgian College. It is our commitment to help develop practical and technical skills to meet the needs of the recreational marine service. Every year we facilitate one individual during their 4 week field placement towards completing the Marine Engine Mechanic Program. Upon successful completion of the program a full-time seasonal position may be offered.

Once the student becomes familiar with the marine industry and is ready to become an apprentice we will register the student with the Ministry of Training College and Universities in the Marine Engine Technician Program where further training will be required. Typically it is a 3 level program and is also offered at Georgian College. Apprenticeships are paid while gaining work experience and the wage increases as the level of skill increases.

If you have any questions regarding the program, field placement opportunities, or apprenticeship or would like a tour of the Georgian College campus, please contact Rob Davidson, program coordinator at 705-728-1968 ext 3725 or by email Rob.Davidson@GeorgianCollege.ca

Further training will be required with the Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) Training Institute to become a recognized Technician with BRP, specifically with the new Evinrude E-TEC engines. Other areas of training include Volvo Penta Canada.

We have successfully trained many individuals. One in particular has been employed with us since 2000. He completed all of the above programs and has since been recognized as a Master Technician with BRP Training Institute. We are thrilled and honored to have him on our team.
